“My family and teachers kept me going. They have always encouraged me to stay disciplined and optimistic for my future,” Jantjies said. Kroutz, who achieved six distinctions despite balancing studies with other responsibilities, will study education at Stellenbosch University. She credited his mother’s support in managing his responsibilities, allowing him to focus on studies.

Mlitha has been accepted to study a Bachelor of Science in Mechatronics at the University of Cape Town, aspiring to become a robotics engineer. Despite struggling with Afrikaans as a second language learner, he overcame challenges through dedicated effort and family support.

Study strategies and support systems

The learners say they employed various study methods, with active recall being particularly popular. Mlitha allocated four hours daily to challenging subjects and two hours to stronger areas, demonstrating strategic time management. Family support was crucial across all the matrics’ success stories, with parents and teachers providing essential encouragement during stressful periods.

Inspiring the next generation

These achievers hope their success will motivate this year’s Class of 2026 in their community to pursue academic excellence and make necessary sacrifices for their dreams. Their advice to current Grade 11s is clear: start studying early, stay positive, and never lose focus despite overwhelming workloads.
