CAPE TOWN – Generation Schools Imhoff is celebrating a remarkable milestone after learner Kent Williams delivered an outstanding performance at the Western Cape Athletics Championships, held at Coetzenburg Stadium in Stellenbosch recently.

Competing in the U13 long jump, Williams represented Western Province and secured an impressive fourth place with a leap of 5,43 metres.

Williams made history as the first learner from the school to be selected for the Western Province athletics team.

Williams hails from Strandfontein, he enjoys soccer and spending time alone.

“My uncle was very good and passionate about athletics. I enjoy competing in any sporting activity. So I enjoyed testing myself against the other schools,” he said.

He initially focused on soccer before pursuing his athletic career.

“I didn’t train long jump much before the coaches at the school asked me to do long jump for the Zonal Interschools,” he said.

He recalls struggling to find his training rhythm after joining the school.

“I haven’t had a lot of training before joining Generation Schools, so I was struggling to find a rhythm to jump with as I discovered this sport is more about rhythm than speed. The exciting part was to see how far I could make it,” he said.

His dedication and commitment throughout the athletics season have been key to his success, and his strong showing at the provincial championships is a testament to his hard work and perseverance.

School spokesperson Lionel Farao expressed immense pride in Williams’s accomplishment, stating: “We are incredibly proud of Kent and what he has achieved. To have one of our learners compete at this level and represent Western Province is a significant moment for our school and a wonderful example for our younger athletes.”

Generation Schools Imhoff continues to expand its sports programme, encouraging all learners to strive for excellence both on and off the field.

Williams’s achievement not only marks a proud moment for the school but also serves as an inspiration to fellow students who aspire to reach similar heights in athletics.

The school community extends heartfelt congratulations to Williams on his remarkable accomplishment and looks forward to supporting his continued progress in the sport.

His success highlights the growing strength of Generation Schools Imhoff’s athletics programme and sets a high standard for future generations of athletes at the school.
