CAPE TOWN – Five suspects were arrested by traffic officers in Grassy Park on Monday morning, 16 March, after they were found driving a hijacked vehicle.
The arrest took place at around 09:50 in 8th Avenue. Officers stopped a Volkswagen Polo, which was confirmed to have been hijacked just after midnight in the nearby Westlake area.
Hijacking arrests
Further investigations linked the group to a business burglary earlier that same morning. At 02:57, a restaurant in Tokai was targeted, with various items stolen. Authorities recovered some of the stolen goods from the suspects, including alcohol, cellphones and a watch.
Crime links
Police have also connected the suspects to additional criminal cases reported at Kirstenhof police station, with investigations still ongoing.
The suspects now face multiple charges, including hijacking, business robbery, possession of a hijacked motor vehicle and possession of stolen property.
All five individuals, believed to be from the Westlake area, are currently being held at Grassy Park police station.
