With the annual Blisters for Bread less than two months away, organisers are appealing to Capetonians to sign up before the deadline on Sunday 2 August.

The iconic charity fun walk, which is organised by Peninsula School Feeding Association (PSFA), will take place on Sunday, 16 August, at the Sea Point Promenade.

With only 10 000 spots available, walkers are encouraged to enter for just R125, which will help feed 23 children with breakfast and lunch for a day.

The fundraising event has been fighting childhood hunger for 58 years. It offers a 5 km or 10km route, with medals and refreshments for all participants.

The 10 km walk will start at 07:30 while the 5 km walk starts at 08:00.

Entertainment includes top artists Paxton, Steven Lee Lewis, and Sketchy Bongo, plus food stalls and family activities.

Petrina Pakoe, director of PSFA, says the event is a testament to the association’s shared commitment to ensuring that every child receives nutritious meals daily.

“Hundred percent of the entry fee that entrants pay goes towards the feeding of the children within our schools. I would like to encourage each and every one to come out, bring the family and friends. It’s not a race; it’s a fun walk. Let us unite against childhood hunger.”

Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis, who will be joining the walk, urged Capetonians to support the walk and feed the needy children.

“It is hard to think of a more deserving cause than feeding hungry school children in our city, and I look forward to joining thousands of Capetonians in the Blisters for Bread walk.”

Hill-Lewis encouraged families and schools to lace up and support “this worthy cause”.

“There has never been a better reason to lace up your running shoes for a 5 or 10 km walk that will have a profound effect on the lives of many young Capetonians.

“The City of Cape Town is proud to support Blisters for Bread, and we are very grateful for the wonderful work the PSFA does in our city and has been doing for many decades.”
