The Welcome Glen Community Voluntary Association (WHCVA) is hoping their annual Heritage Day fundraiser will assist the the upcoming expansion of the group’s social hub.
This year WHCVA are hosting their annual Welcome Glen Potjie Competition on Heritage Day, Thursday 24 September, in the hopes of securing more funds for their projects, according to WHCVA member Dylan James.
Community funds
“The first two competitions raised funds for the neighbourhood watch and community security cameras. Then came the Farmhouse community centre project, which was funded by the competitions that followed,” said James.
The 2026 edition comes with the renovation of the rest of the buildings being imminent, he added.
“The Welcome Glen Farmhouse is the flagship project of the WHCVA and supports 40+ local traders and small businesses, hosts small events and celebrations and provides a space for the community to come together,” James explained.
The day, is expected to be filled with family fun, colouring-in competition for the kids, great food and music and lots of prizes up for grabs.
Fundraising
The competition starts at 9am with cakes, snacks, pancakes, hot drinks and cold drinks available.
Potjies are valued at R50 a portion will be on sale from 12:30.
Community members can actively drive this fundraising milestone by entering a cooking team for R200, volunteering their time, or stepping up as corporate sponsors.
