Claremont resident Jeremy Jobling is preparing to run the world’s highest marathon on Mount Everest. He is doing this as part of an inspiring Everest Marathon fundraiser to raise funds for children and youth ministry at St John’s Anglican church, Wynberg. Many people have already shown interest in supporting the Everest Marathon fundraiser initiative.

He is taking on the Mount Everest Marathon, which begins at Everest Base Camp, 5 300 m above sea level. He also supports the Everest Marathon fundraiser to help fund two new positions dedicated to working with children and teenagers in the community.

The campaign, entitled Running High for the Next Generation, aims to raise R300 000. Of this, R200 000 will go directly towards establishing Children’s and Youth Pastor roles. Meanwhile, R100 000 will cover expedition costs for the Everest Marathon fundraising event. Importantly, the funds gathered from the Everest Marathon fundraiser will have a lasting impact on youth outreach efforts.

According to Jobling he will proceed with the Everest expedition only once the full R200 000 for the ministry roles has been raised by the Everest Marathon fundraiser.

“These young people are facing real struggles anxiety, loneliness and questions of identity,” he pointed out. “They deserve support, mentorship and a safe place to belong.” This vision is at the heart of the Everest Marathon fundraiser effort. Therefore, getting involved in the Everest Marathon fundraiser enables the community to directly assist young people in need.

At the time of publication the Everest Marathon fundraising campaign had raised more than R107115.
