More than 500 City of Cape Town safety and security staff ran a 5 km fun run at Rondebosch Common on Thursday 22 October.
They ran to raise funds for St Joseph’s Children’s Hospital.
Staff from the Public Safety Training College, Metro Police, Law Enforcement, Traffic Services, Fire and Rescue Service, Public Emergency Communication Centre and Disaster Risk Management Centre took part.
Second annual run
This was the second year the Safety and Security Directorate hosted the event. The inaugural fun run in 2025 also drew more than 500 runners.
The directorate used the 2025 proceeds to buy educational toys worth more than R30 000 for the hospital in January.
Runners could either complete the race themselves or sponsor colleagues to run on their behalf.

Supporting St Joseph’s
The funds raised will be donated to St Joseph’s Children’s Hospital in Montana. The 175-bed facility provides free transitional care for children not yet well enough to go home after treatment at a referral hospital.
The hospital, formerly known as St Joseph’s Intermediate Paediatric Care, was renamed this year and marks 91 years of service.
The Pallottine Missionary Sisters founded the hospital in 1935, and it remains the only non-profit institution of its kind in the Western Cape.
About 300 children pass through its wards each year. They spend an average of six months at the facility, receiving free nursing care, rehabilitation therapy and support.
Donations still open
Donations remain open until the end of October. The City will announce the total amount raised during the first week of November.
Mayoral Committee member for safety and security Alderman JP Smith, thanked staff for stepping up.
“Our Safety and Security staff once again showed that not only do they serve to protect, but are also willing to step up for a worthy cause to assist communities.
“I want to thank each and every person who took the time either to reach the finish line or reach into their pockets to lend a hand.”
