Christel House South Africa’s athletes celebrated a remarkable week of athletics success as both Junior and High School teams delivered outstanding performances at their respective inter-school competitions on Tuesday 3 February.

The Junior school team competed in the Metro Central Education District (MCED) Athlone 2 Athletics Cluster , achieving an impressive second place overall finish.

MCED Athlone 2 Athletics Cluster is an inter-school athletics competition for schools within the Metro Central Education District, specifically targeting the Athlone area.

It serves as a qualifying event for the Metro Central Semi-Champs.

The event frequently involves schools from underserved communities competing in track and field, with results in 2026 showing top performances in sprinting, middle-distance, hurdles, and field events.

The High School athletes demonstrated exceptional all-round capabilities across track and field events, securing a commendable fifth place finish.

The team showcased remarkable talent with strong performances in sprinting, middle-distance races, hurdles, and various field events including long jump, javelin, shot put, and discus.

The outstanding performances earned the athletes qualification for the Metro Central Semi-Championships, scheduled for Friday 20 February at Vygieskraal.

Building on this momentum, the school is actively seeking community support to enhance its athletics programme. Christel House aims to acquire essential athletics equipment and develop a walking and running track to promote learner health and wellbeing.

The school’s development and partnerships director Lara Black welcomes partnerships from community members and local businesses interested in contributing through financial or in-kind support. For more information contact Lara Black at lblack@sa.christelhouse.org.

Christel House South Africa is a no-fee, non-profit school based in Ottery and supports learners from disadvantaged communities, starting from Grade RR until age 18 and five years post matric.
