The City of Cape Town is preparing for a significant land auction in the new year, offering approximately 50 properties across the metro for sale and lease.

The auction, scheduled for 26 February 2026, will include land parcels zoned for residential, commercial, industrial, community, and mixed-use developments, totalling approximately 282 000 square metres. Properties span several key areas, including the Good Hope Centre precinct, Mitchells Plain, Atlantis Industrial, Parow, and Goodwood.

Claremart Group has been appointed as the official auctioneer to oversee the process, with full listings available on their website.

Alderman James Vos, Mayco member for economic growth, described the auction as “an extraordinary opportunity for private-sector investment across the metro”.

“Each site has been carefully packaged to attract capable investors ready to deliver tangible benefits for communities and the broader economy,” Vos said.

Revenue generation and economic growth strategy

The City has confirmed that all properties identified for auction have been thoroughly assessed and are not required for municipal purposes. Revenue generated from the sales will be allocated towards service delivery.

Vos emphasised the strategic importance of the initiative. “I am prioritising the release of well-located land to unlock economic potential. I firmly believe that our land portfolio must drive economic growth rather than sit idle.”

The auction forms part of a broader disposal programme that the City has been implementing over recent years. The public auction format has been chosen to ensure full transparency in the bidding process.
