Emerging filmmakers from seven Cape Town institutions are showcasing their short films at FAME Week Africa, as the City of Cape Town looks to strengthen the cityโ€™s position as a leading film destination.

FAME Week Africa connects African creatives across film, television, animation, music, fashion and entertainment technology to showcase their talent, stories and culture to local and international audiences.

The City is once again partnering with FAME Week Africa, which officially opened at the Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC) on Today (28 October), bringing together local and international creatives from the film, fashion and entertainment industries.

Mayco member for safety and security, JP Smith, officially opened the event and the City of Cape Town/Film Cape Town stand on the exhibition floor.

โ€œWe are proud to support festivals such as FAME Week Africa, which celebrate our creative industries and connect local and international talent. This year, weโ€™re especially excited to showcase the work of emerging filmmakers from our local institutions on the big screen.

โ€œWe look forward to building industry connections and championing Cape Town as a leading film destination,โ€ said Smith.

The stand features short films by emerging filmmakers from AFDA, the Animation School, Film School Africa, the Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT), the University of Cape Town (UCT), SAE and Kiddzpas Film Studio.

The films include animation, live action, fiction and non-fiction productions. They will be screened at the pop-up cinema from 10:00 to 15:30 daily from today to Friday 30 October.

The programme includes content sessions, film screenings, live music, curated exhibitions and networking opportunities aimed at connecting creatives with international partners, investors and audiences.

The City will also host a panel discussion, Creating Across Industries, exploring collaboration between film, music, performance and other creative sectors.

The eventโ€™s FAME Shorts Film Festival will take place at The Rockefeller Hotel from Friday 30 October to Sunday 1 November.
