Three foreign nationals accused of human trafficking will return to court on Monday 19 October for the verification of their new addresses before a bail application a week later.
Jasmine Maureen Robert (29), Ogechukwu Maduagu (35) and Kabira Ologunro (25) made their last appearance in the Cape Town Magistrates’ Court on Monday 12 October where the case was postponed.
They are facing a charge of attempted human trafficking after allegedly kidnapping a 22-year-old Nigerian woman who escaped and sought help at Woodstock Police Station.
According to Hawks spokesperson Lt Col Siyabulela Vukubi, the victim, who is also from Nigeria, met Robert on TikTok in April when she was looking for a hair stylist.
The victim allegedly agreed to the arrangement, after which Robert organised and paid for her travel documents, passport and flight tickets to Cape Town.
Vukubi said the victim was picked up by Robert on arrival in Cape Town and taken to a hotel.
Robert allegedly attempted to force the victim into prostitution, but she refused.
On Sunday 13 September, the woman managed to escape and ran to Woodstock Police Station. Robert was arrested on the same day, after she went to the station to look for the victim.
Maduagu and Ologunro were arrested by the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation’s (Hawks) Economic Protected Resources team on Tuesday 29 September.
They made their first court appearance on Wednesday 30 September.
