A 32-year-old man faces two counts of murder in the Wynberg Magistrates’ Court. The charges follow a Cafda Village shooting that killed two people last week.

Anti-Gang Unit detectives arrested the man on Wednesday 14 October. This arrest came five days after the shooting in Ensor Street, Cafda, Retreat. The shooting took place on Friday 9 October at about 09:15.

Two killed in Cafda Village gang crossfire

The two victims, a 30-year-old man and a 46-year-old woman, were at home at the time. According to police, unidentified men chased a rival gang member onto the property.

The gunmen opened fire on the gang member. They missed him and fatally shot the two victims instead.

Steenberg police found both victims with fatal gunshot wounds. Medical personnel declared them dead on the scene.

The shooting adds to a string of violent incidents on the Cape Flats. Gang violence remains a persistent challenge in these communities. Illegal firearms continue to fuel murders and attempted murders across the region.

Detectives arrest murder suspect

Anti-Gang Unit detectives took over the murder docket. They followed up on information and arrested the 32-year-old man at an address linked to one of the suspects.

He remains in custody at Steenberg police station. Police will oppose bail.

Meanwhile, Western Cape provincial commissioner Lt Gen Sizakhele Dyantyi praised the officers for their commitment, which led to the arrest. Dyantyi brings 34 years of policing experience to the role. He took up the position on 1 August 2026.
