A 35-year-old Bo-Kaap man was shot and killed in Voetboog Street yesterday (5 August), leaving the community shaken by the brazen attack.
According to bystanders Ameen Samuels was fatally wounded after unknown suspects, allegedly travelling in a red Volkswagen Polo Vivo, opened fire before fleeing the scene.
He was declared dead at the scene by medical personnel.
Thembakazi Mpendukana, provincial police spokesperson, said Cape Town Central police were investigating a murder case.
“No arrests have been made, and the investigation is ongoing,” Mpendukana said.
Ebrahim Christian, vice-chair of the Bo-Kaap Civic and Ratepayers Association, described the shooting as “senseless”.
“He was a well-respected car guard and he was passionate about rugby. I was one of the last people on the scene trying to perform CPR on him. I have known his family for years. This was really a senseless killing.”
Mpendukana urged anyone with information to contact Crime Stop on 08600 10111 or use the MySAPS App to submit information anonymously.
