The hotly anticipated Bayview Youth Cup is fast approaching with 64 local and international teams expected to battle it out.

With the entirety of the Cape Metro covered by teams and soccer clubs, this year the tournament welcomes teams from Knysna and Beaufort West in the province.

The tournament will also welcome a team from Windhoek, Namibia.

Having enjoyed much success in growing the tournament over the past few years, the Youth Cup celebrates its 10th year.

With the tournament expected to launch on Youth Day (Friday 16 June), kick-off will officially take place at the end of the month.

Bigger prize money, scouts and a great atmosphere will fill Strandfontein Sports Field from Sunday 25 June to Saturday 1 July as hosts Bayview Football Club welcome teams.

Some of the tournament’s achievements include having local youths scouted for bigger and better opportunities in the sport.

Defending champions Stellenbosch FC will also put their best boot forward to try and take home the trophy for a consecutive year.

People’s Post has again joined the tournament as a print-media partner.

Bayview Club chair and tournament director Mark Rodrigues says: “Our youth have missed out on a lot during the two-year period of the Covid-19 pandemic. Not just in time and education, but also in sports. The Bayview u-16 tournament started 10 years ago when soccer had just started evolving. Today the tournament is here where our youth can be seen by scouts in South Africa and all over the world.”
