The Fish Hoek Community Policing Forum (CPF) is expected to elect a new chair in the coming weeks after former chair Jonathan Mills stepped down to take on the new role of ward councillor

“I stepped down as CPF chair when I was elected as the DA candidate for Ward 107 which is the area of Blouberg and Parklands.”

Mills further explains: “We cannot act in a CPF capacity when elected, so I had to step down, which is what I did.”

The results of the by-elections were announced on Thursday 29 June, where Mills received 94% of the votes.

“I am now the councillor for Ward 107, so I am moving to the far side. Blouberg and Parklands are lovely communities that are very much like Fish Hoek although it is a younger community.

“They have the same challenges such as crime and service delivery, so I felt that I could really apply my experience which I learned in the various roles I have held in the CPF and committees.”

Mills held the role of CPF chair for three years, also establishing the Care Company, a non-profit organisation.

“I was on the CPF for four and a half years and I was the chair for the past three years. I started as the representative of the elderly because of the NPO I started.”

His message to the Fish Hoek community as outgoing chair is to encourage everyone to find joy and to volunteer their time.

“Fish Hoek is a very special place I moved to when my mother became ill, and I spent some time with her. I took the community to heart, and they took me to heart. I am a big believer in community work and active citizenship, so I was always open to volunteering.

“Fish Hoek is a place of great community spirit and I will encourage everyone to always focus on that and to find your joy.”
