Hundreds of walkers are expected to lace up for this year’s Blisters for Bread Charity Family Fun Walk in support of the Peninsula School Feeding Association (PSFA), with proceeds helping to feed vulnerable schoolchildren across the Western Cape.

The annual event will take place on Sunday 16 August, offering participants a choice between 5km and 10km routes starting from Stephan Way in Green Point and finishing at the Green Point Common Sports Ground.

Organisers said the R125 entry fee per person will enable the PSFA to provide meals to 23 vulnerable learners for a day.

Entries are limited to 10 000 participants across both distances, with the closing date set for Sunday 2 August.

Charles Grey, Fundraising Manager for PSFA, said the event has already attracted more than 300 entries.

“Blisters for Bread is far more than a family fun walk; it is a powerful community movement that helps the PSFA to provide nutritious meals to thousands of vulnerable schoolchildren every day.”

Grey says every entry, donation and contribution plays a vital role in restoring dignity.

“Every entry, every step taken, and every contribution made help restore dignity, improve concentration in the classroom, and give children hope for a brighter future.

“We are deeply grateful to the people, businesses, and the Government of the Western Cape for the loyal support of this iconic event and standing with us in the fight against childhood hunger.”

Refreshment stations and medical support will be available along the route and at the finish area to assist participants.

Walk number collection will take place on Saturday 15 August, from 9:00 to 17:00 at selected Sportsmans Warehouse branches, including V&A Waterfront, Rondebosch, Tygervalley, Somerset West and Tokai.

Participants who provide an email address and cellphone number during registration will receive confirmation details and collection information ahead of the event. The event is online entry only. To enter visit www.psfa.org.za
