CAPE TOWN – The City’s Disaster Risk Management Centre (DRM) said no major residential impacts had been reported following the latest bout of severe weather.
DRM spokesperson Sonica Lategan said that while conditions had not caused widespread damage, some localised flooding had occurred.
In Simon’s Town, heavy downpours led to water accumulating on roads, forcing traffic to be diverted via Soldier’s Way back onto Main Road.
However, the heavy rain battered parts of Parkwood where some roads and sidewalks were severely flooded.
Ward 65 councillor Donovan Nelson stated that a blockage was causing flooding in the area.
Teams therefore had to wait until the following morning to continue operations using the bucket system in an effort to remove the blockage safely and restore proper water flow, he added.
Traffic flow was affected near Main Road and the Glencairn Express Way, slowing access to the SA Navy Festival 2026, with traffic officers on site managing the situation.
In Constantia, a tree had fallen and was obstructing Main Road. Services had been dispatched to clear the obstruction.
Lategan said the wind and rain were expected to ease overnight and urged residents to report any property damage or life-threatening emergencies to the Public Emergency Communications Centre on 021 480 7700.
