Police investigate after CPUT student fatally struck by car in District Six


Cape Town Central police are investigating a culpable homicide case following the death of a 19-year-old Cape Peninsula University of Technology student on Tuesday 7 April.

According to reports, the female student died after being allegedly hit by a car on the corner of Tennant and Hanover streets in District Six.

Sgt Wesley Twigg, provincial police spokesperson, said the circumstances surrounding the incident are under investigation and no arrests have been made yet.

Lauren Kansley, CPUT spokesperson, confirmed that the woman was a registered first-year student at the District Six campus.

“We have been in communication with the family to liaise the details around the incident. They are not from this province, but the house parent from the residence where she lived has been dealing with the family. She was a resident at one of our residences,” explained Kansley.

Police are appealing to anyone with information regarding this incident to call Crime Stop on 08600 10111 or use the mobile application MySAPS anonymously.
