A lane closure on Claremont Boulevard begins today, 23 March, and will continue until the end of February next year. The City of Cape Town’s Urban Mobility Directorate is implementing the closure between Stanhope and Hawthorne roads as part of the second phase of the MyCiTi bus service upgrades.

The lane from Stanhope Road towards Hawthorne Road will be closed to traffic. Motorists can follow a detour via Station Road and Main Road. The lane from Hawthorne Road towards Stanhope Road remains open. Drivers are urged to allow extra travel time, follow temporary signage, and adhere to instructions from flag personnel.

The City’s Transport Planning and Network Management team will actively optimise traffic signals in the area to ease congestion.

The MyCiTi Phase 2 bus service will provide direct connections from Mitchells Plain and Khayelitsha to Wynberg and Claremont, making travel faster and safer for commuters.

Mayoral Committee Member for Urban Mobility, Rob Quintas, said residents and commuters can expect upgraded intersections, improved signage, enhanced landscaping, and, in some areas, new street furniture and public art. These improvements aim to revitalise the area, boost local development, and create business opportunities.

This lane closure follows the recent reopening of Stanhope Bridge after the retaining wall was restored. Motorists and residents are encouraged to plan their journeys carefully and stay updated on progress.
