Wynberg detectives have confirmed the man who died in the fatal incident at Wynberg Station on Saturday 29 November.
“Immediately after the incident, authorities registered an inquest. Later, the deceased’s family came forward to provide information about him”, said Sergeant Wesley Twigg, media liaison officer for the Western Cape.
Prasa Western Cape described the event as tragic, but officials confirmed that no foul play occurred. Meanwhile, rail services at Wynberg Station continue to operate, and commuters must follow safety notices and stay alert.
Eyewitnesses reported that the scene was shocking. Zingisa Sukani said: “It was shocking to see. Everyone on the platform was in disbelief.” Similarly, Lindo Mhlakela added “Seeing something like this makes you realise how fragile life is. We need to be more careful and watch out for each other.”
Wynberg detectives are still appealing to the public for information. The deceased was initially described as an unknown man, believed to be in his early forties, wearing a grey top, red T-shirt, black jeans, and white running shoes. Prasa spokesperson Zino Mihi reminded commuters to stay vigilant and follow all safety protocols. Authorities are notifying next of kin and continuing the investigation. They will provide updates as new information becomes available.
