Christmas arrived a little early for the learners of Kalksteenfontein Primary School in Bishop Lavis, thanks to a joint-initiative by Ignisive, a Camps Bay–based organisation, and Camps Bay Primary School.

Together, they delivered 300 “love boxes,” ensuring every learner received one on Tuesday 11 November.

Ignisive, a Camps Bay-based organisation who aims to reintegrate people living on the streets in Camps Bay into society.

Theresa Masaglia, co-founder of the organisation, said each box was worth R300 and contained toiletries, a toy, a clothing item and stationery.

She explained that the handover was made during a special ceremony at the school.

“We have a longstanding relationship with Kalksteenfontein Primary, and we wanted to do something special for the learners. We encouraged them to stay in school, and we just wanted to celebrate them for good work that they are doing.”

Masaglia said it was heartwarming to see a Grade 2 learner who once lived on the streets of Camps Bay as a toddler now thriving and excelling at school.

“The joy on their faces as they opened the boxes filled with toys, toiletries, clothes, and sweets was absolutely priceless a reminder of how powerful kindness can be.”

She explained that staff and teachers were also treated to a special gift.

Theresa Napoleon, principal at the school, said the joy on the learners’ faces was priceless.

“They were very excited. It was wonderful, we had Christmas in November.”

Napoleon explained that most of the learners come from disadvantaged backgrounds.

“Most of the learners don’t get presents. They opened the box and saw not just one gift but several items. No one gives them presents this time of the year. It was priceless and it means a lot to them.”

Masaglia said the event would not have been possible without the generosity from everyone involved.

She expressed her gratitude to police officials from both Camps Bay and Bishop Lavis police stations for assisting them on the day.

“To everyone who supported behind the scenes (including the local resident who added extra stationery and toiletry gifts) and to all Camps Bay residents thank you for believing in our vision and helping make it real.”

Masaglia also shared a special word of encouragement.

“Let’s never underestimate the power of unity. Our small sparks of kindness, when combined, ignite lasting, inclusive change.”
