Operation ‘Bamba’, a joint operation between SAPS, Nelson Mandela Bay (NMB) Metro Police and various other stakeholders, continues to have success in removing firearms from the streets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to police spokesperson, a 30-year-old shop owner was arrested on April 10, at approximately 09:00, after a 9mm pistol and 10 rounds of ammunition were found in a shop in Gerald Smith, Kamesh. He has been charged with the illegal possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“Later the same day, at approximately 19:30, two male suspects were arrested in Blackburn Street, Govan Mbeki, KwaDwesi, for the illegal possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition,” Beetge said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
He added that the firearm, a 9mm pistol with 6 rounds of ammunition, were discovered in the glove compartment of a Toyota Quantum minibus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Operation ‘Bamba’ is part of the intervention strategy that is aimed at stabilising the rise in contact crimes in the northern areas of Nelson Mandela Bay. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
