Algoa Plastics boss Rob Evans will remain in prison, as his bail appeal matter has been struck\u00a0off\u00a0the roll at Gqeberha High Court, the court heard yesterday, September 18.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The 58-year-old businessman has been in police custody since May 9, when he was arrested in Newton Park for allegedly murdering his 36-year-old girlfriend, Vanessa van Rensburg, in his holiday home in Oyster Bay during Easter weekend.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During the bail application in Humansdorp Regional Court, the court heard that Vanessa’s post-mortem revealed 23 wounds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As previously reported by the Express<\/strong><\/a>, Evans’ bail was denied in July after he was found to be untruthful to the court and failed to provide exceptional circumstances for his Schedule 6 offence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During court proceedings, his legal representative, Paul Roelfse, argued that magistrate Dierdre Dickson did not act with urgency when Evans’ team of legal representatives submitted a notice of appeal on July 29.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The court heard that once the notice of appeal was served, Dickson received it on September 9, and on September 12 filed an affidavit stating that she would decide whether she would file additional reasons for denying Evans’ bail.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
