GQEBERHA <\/strong>– Three Eastern Cape malls have partnered with Cupcakes of Hope (CoH) to support South African children battling cancer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fountains Mall in Jeffreys Bay, Hemmingway Shopping Centre in East London, and Walmer Park in Gqeberha will join 79 malls nationwide in hosting National Cupcake Day (NCD) on 27 September to raise funds for children with cancer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

CoH is a South African NGO dedicated to supporting children diagnosed with cancer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Their flagship event, NCD, is the country’s largest cupcake fundraiser.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 2024, the event mobilised 2,000 volunteer bakers, known as ‘Cupcake Angels,’ and raised over R2 million for children with cancer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

CoH founder, Sandy Cipriano, said, “Oncologists, hospitals, social workers and hospices all contact us with requests to assist.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“For a donation of between R10 and R20, and a cupcake in return, people greatly assist us to support little warriors fighting cancer. Since 2020, the number of children we support has nearly quadrupled. In just the last month, we helped over 140 young cancer warriors, the youngest only a year old.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On NCD, participating malls provide space for the bakers to display their home-baked cupcakes, with all proceeds going to CoH to support children affected by cancer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The funds raised help cover essential costs such as medical expenses, nutritional support, nappies, and other vital needs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Marlene de Beer, Cupcakes of Hope’s Eastern Cape Coordinator, said, “National Cupcake Day is such a special and fun way to help little warriors make their fight against cancer a little bit easier.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Last year we received incredible support from Eastern Cape communities. For example, our stalls at Walmer Park Mall ran out of stock three times last year! But they kept getting replenished. I am looking forward to seeing people’s reactions and support this year.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Since their launch in 2012, CoH has supported over 10,000 families. Just last year, they fulfilled 2,568 financial support requests, delivered 3,022 activity care bags to over 21 paediatric oncology wards, and celebrated 111 patient birthdays.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
