GQEBERHA\u00a0\u2013<\/strong> Kings Beach will remain closed to the public whilst Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality works around the clock to repair a damaged sewer pipeline that has caused sewage contamination in the harbour area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The beach closure, implemented weeks ago as a precautionary health measure, will continue until water quality tests confirm it is safe for public use following the sewage spill that affected Kings Beach and surrounding waters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to Nelson Mandela Bay  Municipality contractors have made significant progress, excavating four metres of trench and reaching the concrete encasement surrounding the sewer pipe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, unexpected technical difficulties, coupled with high sewer flow rates and heavy daytime traffic in the area, have hampered completion of the works.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nelson Mandela Bay Executive Mayor Babalwa Lobishe shared that public health remains the council’s primary concern.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Our residents’ health and safety remain our top priority,” she said. “Whilst we understand the inconvenience of the beach closure, it is a necessary precaution until we can guarantee the water is safe. Our teams are working day and night to resolve the situation and reopen Kings Beach as soon as possible.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
