A 32-year-old robber has been sentenced to an effective 12-year imprisonment on June 18, in the Gqeberha Magistrate Court.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to the police spokesperson, Captain Sandra Janse Van Rensburg, in October 2023 at about 14:30, SAPS Mount Road detectives were busy with an investigation in Steboneath Road in Sydenham when detectives noticed a man running with a knife and cellphone in his hands, SAPS members then became suspicious and pursued after him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWhile the detectives were busy interviewing him at the police station, the complainant arrived at the station to report the robbery,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cHe indicated that he was at the North End Lake in his vehicle, a Toyota Corolla<\/span>, when he was approached by a suspect wearing a mask and armed with a knife.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cHe was threatened and his cell phone was taken. <\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cThe complainant scuffled with the suspect and in the process, he was stabbed in his face and neck. He received medical treatment for the injuries,\u201d she added<\/p>\n\n\n\n The accused remained in custody until the finalisation of the case.<\/p>\n\n\n\n On Tuesday, June 18, the accused Harry Nelson (32) was found guilty on aggravated robbery and possession of suspected stolen property and was sentenced to an effective 12 year imprisonment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Nelson Mandela Bay District Commissioner, Major General, Vuysile Ncata, has welcomed the sentencing and reiterated that this sentence serves as a lesson to opportunistic criminals prowling the streets and targeting innocent
