A PORT Elizabeth-born celebrity, Nambitha Ben-Mazwi, commonly known as Lady Nam, will be making her way to the Bay for the #SheSpeaks initiative.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The well-known actress, MC, radio and TV presenter, has stolen the hearts of many South Africans in her fight for women empowerment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe #SheSpeaks initiative is a platform aimed at women finding their own voices in all aspects of their lives while encouraging self-love, self-purpose and self-awareness. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI try to provide young females with the tools to succeed in their career paths, while remaining confident with their appearance and self-esteem,\u201d said Lady Nam. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
After matriculating from Collegiate Girls High School, she moved to the Mother City to complete her Honours Degree in Business Science at the University of Cape Town (UCT).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Lady Nam found her passion for the arts at the age of 12, while travelling as a singer and performing at prestigious venues across Western Europe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cReturning to my home town is always exciting and I love spending time with my family when I\u2019m in PE. I was also invited by my old church to attend an event. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI have to give back to the church who raised me and who created a very spiritual woman. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cAnother thing on my list is catching up with my Collegiate girls and spending some time with them. I\u2019m really excited about returning home.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
One of Lady Nam\u2019s passions and one of her own callings is to make a positive impact within her community as well as empower women. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Her followers look-up to her for constant inspiration, confidence and advice through her social media platforms and her craft as an actress.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThere are so many people who approach me regarding their troubles in life, especially women and young girls. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI try to help them by finding themselves and in addition, give them a voice as well. Growing up, I was often teased for my dark complexion. I teach young girls to be comfortable in their own skin.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Stemming from social media engagement, social media messages, her own personal experiences and ensuring her voice is heard, Lady Nam hopes to inspire and empower the youth of SA, particularly young women.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Working for a leading global software company, Lady Nam headed to New York City, where a two-week trip turned into a six-month working opportunity. Working her way through the media industry in Manhattan, she gained insight into the TV industry and was exposed to shows such as MTV\u2019s Guy\/Girl Code, The David Letterman Show<\/i> and Chelsea Lately<\/i>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI was exposed to the media and broadcast industry and ended up as a host at New York\u2019s best comedy club, The Stand, as well as making a guest appearance on primetime talk-show, Viewpoint<\/i>, hosted by John Fugelsang. I was so excited and grateful for all the opportunities.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In 2013, Lady Nam returned to South Africa to pursue her revived passion for the media industry where she managed the digital marketing for Heart 104.9fm. Lady Nam found the inspiration to start her own digital marketing, consulting and production company in South Africa called NambithaBM Media.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWhen I returned, I tackled the film industry and landed a role in Mzansi Magic\u2019s crime drama, Doubt<\/i>. One of my highlights was when I was nominated for favourite actress at the YOU Spectacular, as well as starring in Traffic<\/i>.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Shortly after landing her first Hollywood role on Black Mirror<\/i>, she was offered the opportunity to work alongside Laurence Fishburne in Madiba<\/i> \u2013 a vulnerable role that showcased her diversity and a chance for her to tell stories close to her heart.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI was in awe at how fast things were moving for me, but I remained humbled. My family in PE are ultimately the ones who still keep me very grounded.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
2017 saw her embark on her biggest role yet, a lead in e.tv\u2019s prime-time telenovela, Broken Vows<\/i>, which received two e.tv nominations for \u201cBest newcomer to the channel\u201d and \u201cBest dressed\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This year she will appear in a new show called Diamond <\/i>and will be playing a lawyer. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI am really excited about the new show and extremely grateful \u2013 I thank God for all the blessings he bestowed on me.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
