The much loved ice rink at Baywest Mall will soon become a thing of the past.
Baywest marketing manager, Lindsay Steele, has confirmed to Express that after careful consideration, a decision has been made to repurpose the ice rink, due
to the local water crisis and looming Day Zero, combined with the effect that
COVID-19 had on the rink.
“The Ice Rink, together with Management, have informed
the external stakeholders that the ice rink will close at the end of July 2022.
Their dedication and support of the facility over the years are valued,” Steele said.
The closing down of the facility is not only a great loss for mallgoers across the Bay but also the ice-hockey fraternity that regularly used the rink for training and sporting events.
Four years ago, the Women’s Interprovincial Ice Hockey Championship was hosted at the Baywest Ice Rink.
“The rink will be repurposed and Baywest is excited to announce the opening of
the +/- 2800 sqm Gravity Entertainment Park packed full of adventure,
excitement and challenges,” Steele added.
Gravity Entertainment Park will include the likes of open jump trampolines, Olympic trampolines, rope and climbing obstacle courses,
Gladiator pits and escape rooms, among others. The park will cater for mallgoers aged two and older.
“The
addition of the Gravity Entertainment Park to the Fun Factory will further
enhance the offering and solidify Baywest Mall’s position as the entertainment
destination in the Bay.”
