The Drakenstein Farm Watch usually focuses on people in need or danger, but last week the organisation shifted its attention to the animals at the Wellington SPCA. It donated about 400 kg of food to the society. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Colleen McQueen, office manager of the Wellington SPCA, said the society always needs and appreciates dog, puppy, cat and kitten food. \u201cSPCA Wellington wishes to thank all the people who donated food, blankets, toys, money or other goods to the animals in our care,\u201d she said. \u201cYou all have no idea how much your gifts are appreciated.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Daan van Leeuwen Boomkamp, DFW executive chair and founder, said it appeared the food for the animals in the SPCA\u2019s care was only sufficient for another few days. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
He said: \u201cThe massive network of the DFW jumped into action, and within a few hours many members contributed to the DFW\/SPCA with bags of animal food. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The bags were gathered at the headquarters of the farm watch, and on Friday morning, 20 July, the search and rescue, and firefighting teams of the DFW came \u2018to the rescue\u2019.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Daan urged the community to donate to Wellington SPCA, as these animals need its assistance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
McQueen said, besides food, the society always needs cleaning materials such as washing-up liquid, washing powder and bleach. Its equipment needs are mops and brooms. For the offices to run smoothly toilet paper, stationery, tea, coffee and sugar are needed. She added: \u201cregular donations in the form of debit orders for the day-to-day running of the society\u201d will be appreciated. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The SPCA also hosts a jumble sale on the first Saturday of every month. It takes place on the corner of Main Road and Jan van Riebeeck Street. Anything can be donated for the sale.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
