Join the Wellington Community Policing Forum (CPF) and be a part of a safer community. The Department of Community Safety invites community organisations and institutions to register with the department, or with their local GPF, to participate in the forum\u2019s annual general meetings (AGM) and elections. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Wellington\u2019s meeting will be held on 26 August at 19:00 at the Wellington Town Hall. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Provincial Commissioner will, subject to the direction of their minister, be responsible for establishing community police forums at police stations in the province, which will be broadly representative if the local community. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The objectives of community police forums and boards are set out in the South African Police Service Act 68 of 1995, Chapter 7, section 18(1), which state that: \u201cThe service shall, in order to achieve the objectives contemplated in section 215 of the Constitution, liaise with the community through community policing forums and area and provincial community police boards, in accordance with sections 19,20 and 21, with a view to: .<\/span> establishing and maintaining a partnership between the community and the service;.<\/span> promoting communication between the service and the community;.<\/span> promoting cooperation between the service and the community in fulfilling the needs of the community regarding policing;.<\/span> improving the rendering of police services to the community at national, provincial, area and local levels;.<\/span> improving transparency in the service and accountability of the Service to the community; and.<\/span> promoting joint problem identification and problem solving by the service and the community.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n If your organisation is interested in joining the CPF and participating in its activities, they must please enquire with the Department of Community Safety, or with the local police station commander. You must obtain, fill in and submit the necessary application form to register your organisation. You can download the form from the Department of Community Safety\u2019s website, www.westerncape.gov.za, and by selecting the department. You can register your organisation with the department until 26 August. <\/p>\n\n\n\n This is your opportunity to become a CPF member and represent your organisation on the CPF, become part of addressing crime in your area by participating in crime prevention projects, activities and awareness campaigns.<\/p>\n\n\n\n You can perform civilian oversight over the police and improve police service delivery to the community and be a part of building community capacity through volunteerism and social cohesion. <\/p>\n\n\n\n To ensure your organisation is registered, kindly contact the department via the links on the website, or visit your local police station soon to obtain, complete and hand in the prescribed form.
