Paarl Post<\/em> het in Januarie berig oor algehele chaos wat in en om die Bergrivier afgespeel het toe die dorp \u2019n hittegolf ervaar het.<\/p>\n\n\n\nBehalwe dat sekere swemmers van die voetbrug oor die rivier tot in die water geduik het, drank openlik misbruik is, rommel oral agtergelaat is, di\u00e9 gedeelte van die Bergrivier Boulevard-pad bykans onbruikbaar was vir motoriste omdat mense links en regs oor die pad geloop het, op die sypaadjies uitgekamp het en selfs op die middelmannetjie gel\u00ea het, is huiseienaars naby se tuine as toilette gebruik en opritte deur voertuie geblokkeer en moes hulle die harde musiek en geraas tot laataand aanhoor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Videos en foto\u2019s van die gebeure op die dag is wyd op sosiale media asook in nuusbladsye versprei.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Die munisipaliteit het daarna \u2019n verklaring uitgereik om te verduidelik watter stappe gedoen sal word om \u2019n herhaling van daardie naweek se chaos te voorkom.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Vullishouers is orals langs die oewer aangebring, mobiele toilette is opgerig, wetstoepassingsbeamptes het die gebied beman en \u2019n padblokkade is gehou, en hoewel lede van die publiek steeds die naweke daarna in die rivier geswem en daar uitgekamp het, was dit aansienlik rustiger. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Die VF Plus het op die raadsvergadering aan die einde van Januarie \u2019n dringende mosie oor die kwessie by die Bergrivier ingedien, maar slegs di\u00e9 party se drie lede het gestem om die mosie volledig aan te hoor en te bespreek.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Op verlede week se raadsvergadering is raadslid Andr\u00e9 Fourie van die VF Plus vyf minute gegun om sy party se tweede mosie voor te hou. Di\u00e9 keer was die mosie by die munisipale sakelys aangeheg en verskeie sprekers het vooraf aangedui hulle wil kommentaar daaroor lewer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cDit is duidelik \u2019n indringing van die rustige atmosfeer waaraan die Paarl gewoond geraak het \u2013 vir meer jare as wat ons almal kan onthou \u2013 op die oewer van die Bergrivier wat reg deur ons dorp loop,\u201d lui die mosie.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Dit lui verder die Bergrivier is skielik \u201cfeitlik gekaap deur \u2019n klein minderheid\u201d wat chaos gesaai het.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Fourie het ook ges\u00ea die dorp se reeds uitgeputte wetstoepassers en skoonmaak- en vullisdienste is toegegooi met werk teen ekstra koste, en niemand weet wat die bedrag beloop nie.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cDie Bergrivier verteenwoordig \u2019n groot trekpleister en bate wat deur menige dorp elders in SA beny word. Die VF Plus stel voor om \u2019n mosie te bring met betrekking tot moontlike ekonomiese ontwikkeling, werkskeppende geleenthede, toeriste-aantreklikheid ensovoorts; swem of geen swem, wye konsultasie met ander owerhede en naburige dorpe, handel, nywerheid en landbou, die burgerlike samelewing en -organisasies, wynland-toerisme en diegene wat direk geraak word, politieke beheer en verantwoordelikheid \u2013 natuurlik met die raad van die topbestuur van die administrasie, veral die burgemeester, burgemeesterskomitee en hierdie verhewe liggaam van verkose raadslede. Dit is basies wat hierdie mosie beoog om oor te dra,\u201d sluit die skrywe af.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Raadslid Edgar Arendse van GOOD Party was eerste aan die beurt en hy het dit duidelik gestel sy party voel die Bergrivier is daar vir almal om te geniet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Conrad Poole, die burgemeester, het op sy beurt ges\u00ea niemand kla oor mense wat in die Bergrivier by die oord in Simondium swem nie \u2013 ook nie in Velddrift nie.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Poole het ook ges\u00ea Fourie noem in sy mosie die chaos het vir \u2019n aantal naweke voortgeduur, maar hy is slegs bewus van een naweek waarin dinge gevaarlik geraak het en dat die maatre\u00ebls wat ingestel is die situasie daarna onder beheer gebring het.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Pool het ook genoem hy stem nie saam dat inwoners wat langs die rivier woon, se privaatheid geskend word nie.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Paarl Post<\/em> het ook vroe\u00ebr berig dat die munisipaliteit bevestig het dat dit tegnies nie onwettig is om in die Bergrivier te swem nie, maar dat dit onveilig is.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\u2019n Voorstel is weer ingedien dat raadslede moet stem om te bepaal of di\u00e9 mosie verder bespreek moet word.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Hoewel dit aanvanklik gelyk het asof die opposisiepartye \u2019n bietjie wik en weeg oor of hulle nou saam met die meerderheid DA-raadslede moet stem of nie, het altesaam 56 raadslede teen die VF Plus se mosie gestem.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Slegs die drie lede van die VF Plus het ten gunste van die mosie gestem.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Niemand het buite stemming gebly nie.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
