This month the Cape Chamber Music Collective (CCMC) welcomes some of the most best known musicians, pianist Francois du Toit and violinist Farida Bacharova to their concert series.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The next concerts will take place on Friday in Franschhoek and on Saturday in Wellington.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Together with exciting young instrumentalists, David Pinoit (cello), Bonolo Kgaile (violin) and Uliana Alekseev (viola), they will perform Dvor\u00e1k\u2019s chamber masterpiece, \u201cPiano Quintet No.2 in A Major\u201d. Rarely performed works by Shostakovich and Kod\u00e1ly complete the line-up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cFive Pieces for Two Violins and Piano\u201d is a compilation and arrangement of Shostakovich\u2019s music by Lev Atovmyan, for film and ballet, which the composer was forced to create in a period when he was out of favour with Soviet authorities and was desperately in need of an income. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Second on the programme is the \u201cDuo for Violin and Cello\u201d by Kod\u00e1ly, which has a distinct gypsy feel, drawing inspiration from Hungarian folk music. Kod\u00e1ly was passionate about the music of his homeland and proceeded to record and catalogue as much of it as possible. The programme concludes with Dvor\u00e1k\u2019s masterpiece \u201cPiano Quintet No. 2 in A Major\u201d, in which he combines his affection for Bohemian folk music with his own seductive and lyrical charm. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
This programme is the fourth offering by the CCMC this year in a series of concerts around Cape Town.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
