A prosecuter at the Stellenbosch Magistrate\u2019s Court was released on R1 000 bail after being charged with assaulting his ex-girlfriend, while an alleged thief, Morn\u00e9 du Plessis, was remanded into custody until 23 June.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The 42-year-old Frederick Smit was arrested at his house in Paarl following an alleged assault of his estranged girlfriend last Tuesday afternoon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Paarl police spokesperson Capt Louise du Plessis said the prosecutor\u2019s victim managed to flee to the neighbours for help. \u201cThe suspect is to reappear in the Paarl Magistrates\u2019 Court on 6 July on various charges relating to the Domestic Violence Act.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
On Monday, the Paarl Magistrates\u2019 Court saw the appearance of the 41-year-old Morn\u00e9 du Plessis for two counts of theft from a motor vehicle and possession of stolen property. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201c[On Friday] a local security company found the suspect in possession of various items in a backpack, which he couldn\u2019t account for.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Capt Du Plessis added that while investigations continued following his arrest two complainants residing in the same street arrived at the police station to lay of charge of theft from a motor vehicle. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThey were able to point the stolen property out as items stolen out of their vehicles, linking the suspect to the separate incidents. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
