Renowned Cape winery, Diemersfontein welcomes the return of Spring with an open-air, family friendly concert of live music and picnics at its scenic Wellington amphitheatre on Saturday 10 September.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Playfully titled \u201cDiemersfontein Piekniek Oppie Plaas\u201d (\u201cDiemersfontein Picnic on the Farm\u201d), the event features performances by popular musos Ricus \u201cBoerepompie\u201d Nel and Ruan \u201cRuki\u201d Theron.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Any hunger pangs will be satiated by a selection of food trucks and stalls catering for a variety of tastes. The event also offers \u201cGraze Boxes\u201d \u2013 a picnic for two \u2013 that may be ordered beforehand, or you can compile your own picnic by shopping at Diemersfontein\u2019s PROE-deli stall.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Diemersfontein is situated 50 minutes from Cape Town, in the heart of the Cape winelands and in the foothills of the majestic Drakenstein mountains. While the quality of its wines has made the winery famous, its renowned hospitality has made it a popular destination.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It will come as no surprise then that a dedicated children\u2019s play area with a variety of fun activities has been set out for Diemersfontein Piekniek Oppie Plaas. And there will be child minders for kiddies between 3 and 12 years of age. They\u2019ll also have their own tuck-shop selling popcorn and slushies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Over at the main arena, Diemersfontein\u2019s wines will be available for sale on the day, along with chill bags, beer and cooldrinks. The winery is of course famous for The Original Diemersfontein Pinotage, and fans of the wine will be happy to know that its creator, former Diemersfontein winemaker Bertus Fourie will attend the event too.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Bertus will in fact be working and making food on the day, which will be great news to fans of the Ultimate Braai Master TV show. Bertus appeared in last year\u2019s Season 7 as a member of Team Asador, which came third. His food truck, Asador Carneology, will be at Diemersfontein for Piekniek Oppie Plaas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Showcasing the suitability of Diemersfontein wines will be a wine-and-food pairing theatre where a selection of wines will be available to taste with curated small-bites, in a relaxed setting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The music show takes place in Diemersfontein\u2019s Amphitheatre with seating available on the vast lawns surrounding the space. Visitors may bring their own blankets and chairs to the venue although these will also be available for sale.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Umbrellas and a Bedouin tent will be erected to provide shade, but will also be decked out in bunting and fairy lights for that extra vibe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Gates open at 14:00. The show gets under way an hour later, with all activities ending at 20:00.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Tickets are available directly from Diemersfontein\u2019s website. An early-bird fee of R200 per adult is on offer, if purchased before 30 June. Thereafter, the price is R225 per adult and R100 per child under 12 (there is no early-bird special for children).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Diemersfontein Graze Boxes are R395 each. For the food-and-wine pairing theatre, walk-ins are welcome, and may be booked and paid on the day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Independent transport services have also been contracted to get visitors to and from the event, if required. Further details will be posted on Diemersfontein\u2019s social media channels.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Please note that no outside food or drinks will be allowed on the premises.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
