Recently peace officers from the Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP), linked to Drakenstein Municipality\u2019s Law Enforcement division, assisted in the successful arrest of an alleged thief in Wellington. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
This followed reports of a suspect stealing copper cables from a private motor vehicle near the Spruit River in Malherbe Street, Wellington. The suspect\u2019s description was communicated to the EPWP Peace Officers and while on patrol, they noticed someone who fitted the description in Church Street. The suspect was stopped, searched and detained as copper cables were found in his possession. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The suspect was handed over to the police and a case was opened at the Wellington police station. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to Drakenstein Municipality, the EPWP Peace Officers, as part of their daily functions, but not limited to, conduct regular foot and vehicle patrols in the central business district of Wellington and the Spruit River..<\/span> Last week the Drakenstein Municipality\u2019s Traffic Services and the police held a joint roadblock on the R44 where a car with a CJ-registration was pulled over. Inside the car copper cables were found. The copper cables were confiscated and the persons, allegedly responsible, were arrested.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The Municipality urges Drakenstein\u2019s residents to report any suspicious activity relating to cable theft to its 24 \/ 7 Central Operations Centre at 021 807 8508, or to the police. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Anonymous tip-offs are also welcome and can be relayed to the Municipality at 021 807 8508 or 080
