Checkers was crowned the overall winner of the 2022 Retail Design & Development Awards (RDDAs), winning several major awards at the event. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Organised by the South African Council of Shopping Centres (SASC), the RDDAs identify and award South African shopping centres for outstanding design and economic success. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Checkers Foods store in Franschhoek received the coveted overall Spectrum Award for 2022, which recognises innovation as well as outstanding economic and creative achievements. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The supermarket also won in the following two categories: .<\/span> Category A \u2013 New Developments: Drakenstein Sentrum, Paarl (Winner) .<\/span> Category C \u2013 Retail Design \u2013 National Retailer: Checkers Foods Franschhoek (Joint-Winner) <\/p>\n\n\n\n Checkers developed and owns the 9 000 m\u00b2 Drakenstein Centre in Paarl, which opened its doors late in 2021. \u201cModern in styling, it is fresh and bright with clean lines,\u201d the SASC said. \u201cIt sits comfortably in its setting, taking advantage of the northerly aspect and the views out to the surrounding landscape.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n In April 2022, Checkers opened its first new-format Checkers Foods supermarket in the Western Cape, in the historic town of Franschhoek. The 1 000 m\u00b2 store is designed to honour the style and charm of the town as well as the architecture of the building in which it is located. <\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cCheckers Foods Franschhoek makes maximum advantage of a refurbished [existing] building and mall,\u201d states the SASC. \u201cThe restyled roof and arcade form the attractive spine of the new food store layout, leading the customer
