\u2019n Herrie het ontstaan tussen die bestuur van die Afrikaanse Taalmonument (ATM), \u2019n geleentheidsorgani\u00adseerder en die nimlike Steve Hofmeyr oor die gebruik van die Amfiteater op Paarlberg.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

De Villiers National Cycling (DVNC) het \u2019n huurkontrak met die Taalmonument aangegaan om \u2019n geleentheid in Februarie vanjaar daar aan te bied.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Daar word egter nou beweer dat toe die Afrikaanse Taalmonument se bestuur hoor dat Steve Hofmeyr die kunstenaar is wat sou optree, is die huurkontrak summier gekanselleer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hierna het Hofmeyr op sy Facebook-blad vuur gespoeg: \u201cNoudat ons weet dat die Taalmonument nie ons vriend is nie, skuif ons na Welbedacht Estate in Wellington.\u201d Verder het hy ges\u00ea \u201cwant die kommunistiese strukture wat baasspeel oor ons kultuur bepaal nie ons liefde vir Afrikaans nie. Die Taalmonument, waarvoor ek baie lief was, sien my nie weer nie,\u201d lui Hofmeyr se plasing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\n By navraag aan die ATM hieroor het Michael Jonas, die direkteur van die ATM, ges\u00ea die ATM sou nooit in Februarie as gasheer vir \u2019n konsert of kunstenaar optree nie<\/span>. <\/span>\u201cDit kon dus nie en het nooit \u2019n konsert gekanselleer nie. Wat wel gebeur het, is dat die ATM in Julie 2022 \u2019n huurkontrak met De Villiers National Cycling (DVNC) aangegaan het om die Amfiteater-perseel buite Paarl te verhuur vir \u2019n geleentheid wat deur De Villiers aangebied sou word (en waar Steve Hofmeyr sou optree). Die kontrak was tussen daardie twee partye. Anders as om toe te laat dat die Amfiteater gebruik word, sou die ATM op geen wyse deel gewees het van die geleentheid nie,\u201d s\u00ea Jonas. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hy verduidelik in die huurkontrak is op \u2019n aantal sake deur die partye ooreengekom, waaronder dat die organiseerder nie moes voorgee dat die konsert deur die ATM gere\u00ebl is nie en dat dit vooraf alle bemarkingsmateriaal aan die ATM vir goedkeuring moes voorl\u00ea.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jonas beweer DVNC het die kontraksbedinge verbreek, ondanks herhaalde versoeke van die ATM dat die kontrak eerbiedig word. Daarom het die ATM in September 2022 reeds die reg wat dit behoudens die kontrak het, uitgeoefen om die organiseerder formeel aan te maan om die kontrak te eerbiedig.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Die organiseerder het versuim om dit te doen, dus het die ATM die kontrak gekanselleer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

De Villiers National Cycling het toe die hooggeregshof (die Wes-Kaapse afdeling in Kaapstad) genader om \u2019n verklarende bevel dat die kansellasie onwettig en nietig is en vir \u2019n interdik dat die ATM die konserte moet laat voortgaan. Die aangeleentheid is in November voor regter LG Nuku aangehoor, wat op 13 Desember bevind het die ATM was geregtig om die kontrak te kanselleer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Wynand de Villiers van DVNC het intussen ges\u00ea hulle het van die staanspoor af \u2019n volwaardige kontrak met die ATM aangegaan en het hul kaarte eerlik op die tafel gegooi oor wie wanneer daar gaan optree.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cDit is insiggewend dat hulle ons eers twee maande n\u00e1 die kontraksluiting skielik in gebreke van die kontrak geplaas het en d\u00edt nadat ons aan elke versoek van hulle in die vorige twee maande voldoen het. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cToe ons \u2018formeel\u2019 in gesprek geplaas is, het ons Michael Jonas drie dae lank in die hande probeer kry om uit te vind wat ons nog moes doen. Hy het ons oproepe en e-pos-boodskappe vermy \u2013 doelbewus.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

De Villiers s\u00ea die ATM het spesifiek die benaming van die venue as basis gebruik om hulle in breek van die kontrak te plaas, terwyl hulle dieselfde foute in hul eie advertensies vir hul eie konserte gemaak het.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cOns het eers na die venue verwys as die Afrikaanse Taalmonument. Toe is ons gevra om dit te verander na die Afrikaanse Taalmonument Amfiteater, later na Taalmonument Amfiteater en nog later net Amfiteater. Dit was \u2019n Babelse verwarring.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Die kansellasie van so \u2019n groot geleentheid het DVNC genoop om die hof te nader.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cDie kruks bly eenvoudig, en dit is dat die Taalmonument nie gasheer vir Steve wil speel nie en nie met hom geassosieer wil word nie.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Maar Hofmeyr en DVNC gaan nie die saak daar laat nie en s\u00ea hulle het ingevolge regsadvies besluit om die saak op app\u00e8l te neem..<\/span> Hofmeyr tree nou op 4 en 5 Februarie by die Welbedacht-wynlandgoed in Wellington op.
