With the rainy season greeting Drakenstein a bit earlier than usual, Drakenstein Municipality is appealing to residents to help keep the stormwater drains clear of rubbish.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The municipality released a statement on its social media platform appealing to residents to refrain from dumping household refuse and general rubbish in sewer and stormwater drains, manholes and rainwater channels. These water conduits are critical for reticulating normal sewer and stormwater effluent, especially when these systems are under severe pressure during the winter rain season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to the municipality a sewage overflow was recently reported in Paarl. Its essential service workers completed an intensive clean-up on the same day and discovered that the affected main-line blockage was caused by a blanket left in one of the main sewerage manholes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The municipality said many other blockages are caused by items like clothes, shoes, bags, and even mattresses. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Residents are also asked not to flush unsuitable items down the toilet, such as wet wipes, floss, toxic substance, cigarette butts, cotton butts, serviettes, baby nappies, sanitary products, newspaper, cloth and fabric, fatty food or fat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
As sewage and stormwater overflows are considered as emergency events, report complaints directly to 080 131 3553 (toll free). Any other non-emergency complaints can be directed to customercare@drakenstein.gov.za or via the SeeClickFix app.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
