Last week a resident from Paarl posted a video on Facebook warning residents about the quality of drinking water in Drakenstein.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In the video the man shows a glass with water and tiny organisms swimming inside. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The man from Northern Paarl claimed it came from his tap.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
On Friday Drakenstein Municipality informed its residents it was aware of the video that was circling on social media claiming Paarl residents should be careful of drinking municipal tap water.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe municipality made contact with this resident this morning (Friday) and understands that the tap has not been used for quite some time as well as that a hosepipe has been attached to the tap.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cIt collected water samples at the residence itself as well as the bulk water meter providing water to the private estate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThere is a strong possibility that the organisms are larvae that hatched in the section of the water pipe that is connected to the tap, or inside the hosepipe, due to these not haven\u2019t been used for quite some time. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cLarvae are commonly found in standing or stagnant water. They won\u2019t be able to survive in the larger water distribution network of the municipality, due to the high water pressure being applied in the network.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
On Tuesday Drakenstein Municipality told Paarl Post <\/i>the sample they took from the resident\u2019s home showed the water quality is fine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe micro-analysis showed there was no E Coli or harmful bacteria in the water. The sample was tested by an independent laboratory.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cDrakenstein Municipality can assure residents there is absolutely no reason for concern. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cIt is recognised for the high-quality, clean potable water it provides to residents. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe municipality\u2019s water is tested bi-weekly and adheres to the national standards, SANS 241, which stipulate the specifications for drinking-water quality in South Africa.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
