This week numerous local individuals and businesses reached out to the less fortunate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Yes, Mandela Day received much attention, and do-gooders were out in full force feeding and doing their best to help those less fortunate. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
But is this mass charitable hysteria necessary only one day of the year?<\/p>\n\n\n\n
For many it has become a public-relations exercise.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Still, it is good to see the community working together to alleviate the miserable burden with which so many live. So why stop there?<\/p>\n\n\n\n
One can only hope those who have any goodwill in them will rather spread out their charitable efforts throughout the year, perhaps making every day a Mandela Day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Adopt a granny, feed the hungry, pass on your unwanted goods to those in need. Give a can of pet food to your local SPCA or even just smile and greet your fellow-man when walking in the street.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The list is endless and these small gestures can surely be done more regularly, to make a difference in the lives of those in need around us. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
