Students and alumni of the Hannover School of Music, Theatre and Media team up to present a series of concerts featuring a diverse programme of works by Mozart, Matthijs van Dijk, and Nordic folk music. The group includes Norwegian flautist Ingvild Ness alongside South Africans Jeffrey Armstrong (violin), Petrus Coetzee (viola) and Nicola McLachlan (cello).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
And they will perform in Wellington\u2019s Marthazaal on 7 October at 19:00.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The locally and internationally acclaimed musicians all have ties to Hannover, Germany, where they spent time during their studies. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
They will come together to present a newly composed piece by local composer Matthijs van Dijk alongside Mozart\u2019s D major flute quartet, and a selection of Nordic folk tunes. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Armstrong writes: \u201cThis programme has something for everyone; a mix of music new and old interspersed with a colourful selection of folk tunes will make a memorable night out!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The highlight of the programme the premiere of the specially commissioned work by Matthijs van Dijk. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The pretext: \u2018if Mozart were alive today, he would be a DJ\u2019. Written as a partner piece to the Mozart flute quartet, Van Dijk lightens the mood significantly by bringing a fresh perspective to themes and motives that were written nearly 250 years ago.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Armstrong, McLachlan and Coetzee all hail from South Africa, having relocated to Hannover at a point in their careers to further their studies abroad. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Coetzee returned to South Africa four years ago, after being appointed principal violist of the Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Jeffrey Armstrong is a well-known name on the local scene who, despite living abroad, returns to the Cape regularly to perform solo and chamber music concerts. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Cellist Nicola McLachlan relocated to Hannover one year ago after graduating from the South African College of Music. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Flautist Ingvild Ness is an active chamber and orchestral musician, performing regularly at festivals and in the top concert halls around Europe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
