Die Chicago-gemeenskap aan die ooste van die Paarl is die afgelope week geruk deur verwoestende brande wat Saterdagaand die lewe van een persoon by die Lovers Lane- informele nedersetting en Dinsdagoggend drie gesinslede by \u2019n afsonderlike brand naby die Rietbok-woonstelle ge\u00ebis het.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Altesaam 49 mense, onder wie vyf kinders, is Saterdagaand dakloos gelaat toe \u2019n brand by die Lovers Lane- informele nedersetting uitgebreek het en sewe strukture vernietig is.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Die oorskot van \u2019n man is tussen die puin ontdek, het die Drakenstein-munisipaliteit in \u2019n verklaring bevestig.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Die munisipale branddienste is omstreeks 21:30 na die toneel ontbied, maar is met hul aankoms met klippe bestook. Een van die brandweerwaens se vensters is deur \u2019n baksteen getref.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Volgens die munisipaliteit moes brandbestryders hulle aan die toneel onttrek en later met polisiebegeleiding na die gebied terugkeer om die brandende hutte te blus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dit is nie duidelik wie die klippe gegooi het en wat die motief daarvoor was nie.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In \u2019n ander voorval het drie lede van dieselfde gesin Dinsdagoggend in die nagtelike ure doodgebrand toe drie informele strukture naby die Rietbok-woonstelle, ook in Chicago, in vlamme gehul is.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Volgens die munisipaliteit is hulle Dinsdagoggend omstreeks 01:19 na die toneel ontbied.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cMet die brandweer se aankoms was drie strukture in ligte laaie. Die brand het ongelukkig die lewe van \u2019n pa, ma en hul kind ge\u00ebis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cDie oorsaak van die brand is nog onbekend en word deur die polisie ondersoek.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cDie Drakenstein-munisipaliteit betuig sy medelye aan die familie en geliefdes van die slagoffers,\u201d lui \u2019n verklaring deur die munisipaliteit. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Volgens kapt. Anthony Sauls, \u2019n polisiewoordvoerder in Paarl-Oos, het die polisie met \u2019n geregtelike doodsondersoek in al twee voorvalle begin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Die polisie ondersoek volgens Sauls ook \u2019n saak van saakbeskadiging wat verband hou met die brandweerwa wat met klippe bestook is.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ian Cameron, verbonde aan die organisasie Action Society, het intussen die aanval op die brandweer ten sterkste veroordeel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cMense kla gedurig oor die gehalte van dienste wat deur nooddienste gelewer word en dat hulle nie gehelp word nie. In hierdie situasie het jy egter \u2019n gemeenskap wat hulp wegwys. Ons veroordeel hierdie aanval op die brandbestryders. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cDie verlies van lewe asook die skade wat weens die brand veroorsaak is, kon dalk verhoed gewees het indien die brandweer net toegelaat is om hul werk te doen. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cOns verstaan gemeenskappe se frustrasie met dienslewering, maar hulle kan nie kla indien hulle ook bydra tot die probleem deur hulpbronne te beskadig en nooddienspersoneel se lewe in gevaar stel nie,\u201d s\u00ea Cameron.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
