The past two months have placed South Africans in unity overdrive, thanks to a magnificent performance from the Springbok rugby team during the Rugby World Cup (RWC) in France.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The country has been in an absolute slump these past few years due to a collapsed economy, what with an ever-growing cost of living, load shedding, sky-high crime statistics and a corrupt government that is not serving its people, to mention a few of the nightmares people in South Africa face daily.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
But the RWC for a brief moment set these issues aside, and almost the entire nation joined forces and put their full support behind the Boks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
And on Saturday evening the country erupted in victory for all when the much-loved Bok captain Siya Kolisi lifted the Webb Ellis trophy aloft after beating New Zealand in the final.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
However, what followed was a bitter pill for many to swallow in the aftermath of such unbridled joy. And this was the President of South Africa, Cyril Ramaphosa, making a mockery of this triumph by using it as a stage for political gain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He literally grabbed the trophy from Kolisi\u2019s hands and held it aloft as if it was his own! This World Cup victory was a victory for all South Africans, and not just a political one.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
