As the calendar year draws to a close, ushering in the festive season period, the police in the Western Cape, in line with the Safer Festive Season Operational Plan, is cautioning residents, shoppers and holidaymakers to remain vigilant at all times.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\n Courier and delivery vehicles <\/b>\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Through South African Police Service crime analysis a spike in robbery of courier and delivery vehicles has been observed. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
While interventions have been put in place an appeal is made to courier and delivery companies to exercise caution when making deliveries. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\n Card fraud <\/b>\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Card users embarking on point of sale and online shopping experiences must exercise extreme caution when transacting. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
ATM users must decline help from strangers and must not be distracted during their transaction. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
When making a transaction at retail stores and establishments your card must not leave your sight. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\n Stokvel\/Savings clubs <\/b>\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Paying dividends out in cash is discouraged. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The public is cautioned against carrying large sums of cash. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Visits to clubs and other entertainment establishments <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Patrons are advised to visit reputable establishments. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Once they are inside they need to be mindful of the contents they consume. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Always alert people close to you about your whereabouts. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\n Visits to tourist attractions <\/b>\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
While police and others in law-enforcement agencies have bolstered deployments at tourist destinations, visitors are advised to adhere to safety precautions. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Since the launch of the Safer Festive Season programme on 13 October police, together with other law-enforcement agencies, have embarked on targeted operations, vehicle check-points, raids, foot patrols, search and seizers, road blocks and other crime fighting initiatives in a bid to ensure that all residents and visitors are and feel safe. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
