The Athlone Institute Bursary Project Fund (AIBPROF) applications are now open, but with a new set of criteria. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cAIBPROF heard the hearts of students who wish to study part-time and do post-graduate studies,\u201d said Gail Jacobs, AIBPROF chairperson, \u201cand now it has extended the criteria to include diploma and certificate courses. This to increase and intensify the impact of a well-educated workforce.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The AIT, a recipient of the prestigious Impumelelo Social Innovations Centre Award, has been in existence since 1926, through the collective effort of members from the five member churches. For the past 23 years the Athlone Institute Trust, through the Athlone Institute Bursary Project Fund, has been awarding students with bursaries. Awards are variable and cover a percentage of the cost of tuition and registration. Bursary funds are paid directly to tertiary institutions and are not repayable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Applicants are advised to adhere to the following criteria: <\/p>\n\n\n\n
1. The applicant should be South African by birth and a permanent resident of Paarl or Mbekweni. If residing outside the boundaries of Paarl or Mbekweni the applicant should be a parishioner of one of the five member churches of the Athlone Institute Trust, namely Holy Trinity or St Stephen\u2019s Anglican, URC Immanuel or Zions or Bethal Congregational church.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
2. The applicant should have obtained their matric certificate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
3. The applicant should prove financial need by producing financial records.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
4. The applicant should be enrolled as a part- or full-time under or post-graduate student for the academic year at a tertiary institution (TVET College\/Universities\/Universities of Technology). The intended course of study and institution should be registered with the Council of Higher Education.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
5. Students who want to re-apply for subsequent years of studies should produce an academic record verifying their promotion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
6. The applicant should produce proof of registration for studies and other required documentation, as stipulated in the application form.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
7. Be willing to become involved in community service in the Paarl\/Mbekweni area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
8. Participate in the mentoring programme. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The closing date for bursary applications is Tuesday 29 February 2024. Completed application forms can be placed in the box at Drakenstein Pharmacy. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
