Paarl Post<\/em> berig sedert die begin van die jaar oor die toestand van verskeie munisipale begraafplase in onder meer Wellington en die Paarl.<\/p>\n\n\n\nVorige nuusberigte het gefokus op inwoners se ongelukkigheid met gras wat hoog tussen grafte groei, grafte wat gevandaliseer word en die omheinings wat gesteel word en dit maklik maak vir vandale om toegang tot die persele te kry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Die Ou Hofstraat-begraafplaas in Bergrivier-Boulevard is onlangs in die kollig geplaas nadat dit ook onder vandalisme gebuk gegaan het.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Die omheining van hierdie begraafplaas aan die kant van die Bergrivier is ook stuk-stuk weggedra.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Toe die koerant die begraafplaas verlede week besoek, was verskeie vuurmaakplekke onder bome sigbaar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Menslike ontlasting en stukkende glasbottels was oor die hele begraafplaas sigbaar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Paarl Post <\/em>se besoek aan die perseel volg nadat \u2019n leser sy ongelukkigheid in \u2019n brief gedeel het.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\u201cIn \u2019n beskaafde dorp soos die Paarl behoort elkeen met respek behandel te word, selfs die afgestorwenes. Indien dit wel vandalisme is, moet dit [die hoof gebied] word. \u201cDie Ou Hofstraat-begraafplaas behoort aan \u2019n private kerk, wat beteken dat die instandhouding daarvan nie die munisipaliteit se verantwoordelikheid is nie. Ons is egter in kontak met die kerk oor hierdie instandhoudingskwessies,\u201d het Barnard ges\u00ea.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Sy s\u00ea die munisipaliteit het in sy begroting vir die volgende finansi\u00eble boekjaar voorsiening gemaak vir die instandhouding van begraafplase.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cDie munisipaliteit sal \u2019n gefokusde plan saamstel en implementeer om te verseker dat ons geliefdes in waardigheid rus. Ons tegniese spanne ondersoek tans verskeie opsies in hierdie verband.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Tydens die onlangse aanbieding van die 2024-\u201925-begroting het Stephan Korabie, Drakenstein se uitvoerende burgemeester, ook \u2019n hernude fokus op die begraafplaasfunksies in Drakenstein aangekondig.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cDie beskerming en instandhouding van ons huidige begraafplase en verwante infrastruktuur is \u2019n groot fokuspunt wat die nodige aandag in die nuwe boekjaar sal ontvang.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Hy het die verdere vestiging van die nuwe Nieuwedrift-begraafplaas teen \u2019n waarde van R3 miljoen as een van die hoofkapitaalprojekte vir die 2024-\u201925-boekjaar aangekondig.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWaar \u2019n plaaslike owerheid \u2019n verpligting het om na begraafplase om te sien, verwag inwoners en belastingbetalers dat dit nagekom moet word.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
