It is extremely refreshing to see that our hard-earned tax money is spent on worthwhile projects like the road construction on practically every main entrance to Paarl. As you know by now it does cause major traffic congestion, especially in peak hours and even after. Construction on the R45, between Paarl and Franschhoek, will only be completed in 2026. That is a long time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Would it not have been a wiser decision to have started the second part of the upgrade once the first on the Jan van Riebeeck section was completed?<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Today I had to sit for 20 minutes watching a \u201ctraffic director\u201d allow vehicles from the Berg River side of Val de Vie 3 opportunities to pass, whilst the rest of the traffic was compelled to sit and wait for 20 minutes in order to get an opportunity to continue our drive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
I stopped to ask the \u201ctraffic director\u201d if she had a driving licence, which, not surprisingly, she does not. How is she allowed to make decisions on who is allowed to drive and when? Her response to me was that \u201cit was not her fault that I was late\u201d, while I had been 20 minutes early for my appointment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Traffic backlogs are to be expected, but so is common sense. Perhaps the public should in future be consulted in decisions like these and the impact properly considered.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The intention is wonderful, the execution is a disaster.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
