A baboon had the whole of Paarl abuzz as it walked through the streets of central Paarl this week, before adopting the Drakenstein municipal headquarters in the Berg River Boulevard as it\u2019s home. The male baboon was first noticed in the industrial area of Distillery Street, close to the Berg River on the weekend.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The baboon presumably found it\u2019s way into Paarl from the nearby Du Toits Kloof mountains which are densely inhabited by baboons. But it remains a mystery as to why it left it\u2019s natural and safe habitat to enter the heart of Paarl.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The baboon had been circling and climbing up and down the municipal headquarters for hours and caused quite a headache for law-enforcement officers as to how they were going to capture and remove the baboon safely.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A law-enforcement officer on the scene said that after consultation with CapeNature on the issue, it was confirmed that the baboon\u2019s relocation rests on the municipality, and not on CapeNature.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In the meantime the municipality had been given a cage-trap to try and trap the baboon, but this had so far been unsuccessful.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This was the first sighting of a baboon within the city limits of Paarl in 11 years, when a lone male baboon wandered the residential edge of Paarl Mountain for weeks, before presumably being killed by farm dwellers in Paarl South. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Die verdagte het in \u2019n BMW probeer vlug \u2013 vermoedelik reeds uit Franschhoek \u2013 waarna hy toe in die Paarl beheer oor die voertuig verloor nadat \u2019n band gebars het en in \u2019n sakeperseel op die hoek van Hoofstraat en Klein Reservoirstraat in die Paarl vasgejaag. Die sakeperseel behoort aan ISA Architects, maar word verhuur aan die Mountain River Group wat wynvate en ander wynbehandelingsprodukte verkoop en uitvoer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Die Drakenstein-krematorium is sedert 2011 in private besit nadat die huidige eienaar, Johann van der Merwe, dit gekoop het en dit sedert\u00addien glo onder \u2019n kleed van geheimhouding bestuur word.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Twee bronne met wie PaarlPost <\/i>gesels het en nie hul name genoem wil h\u00ea nie om hul reputasie te beskerm, het verduidelik dat die krematorium aan beweerde onwettige aktiwiteite skuldig is, soos om liggaamsweefsel, beendere en as op stortingsterreine in die Drakenstein-vallei te strooi weens \u2019n tekort aan kapasiteit om oorskot behoorlik te veras.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Volgens die bronne was die Drakenstein-krematorium van 2011 tot 2016 gemagtig om slegs agt liggame per dagskof (08:00 tot omstreeks 18:00) te verbrand, waarna \u2019n lisensie n\u00e1 2016 goedgekeur is wat die getal opgestoot het na 16 liggame binne \u2019n 24-uur-tydperk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Die krematorium het glo nooit hieraan gehoor gegee nie tussen 30 en 40 liggame is uiteindelik per dag veras.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Weens die hoeveelheid liggame wat ingeneem is, beteken dit ook dat die krematorium meer as een liggaam \u2013 dikwels saam met honde \u2013 veras het, waarna die oorledene se familie nie uitsluitlik hul geliefde se as sou ontvang nie.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Honde se karkasse is ook deur die krematorium ingeneem om veras te word, wat as \u2019n aanvullende inkomste vir die krematorium gedien het. Hierdie praktyk is wel wettig indien die krematorium \u2019n lisensie daarvoor het, wat die Drakenstein-krematorium wel tot 2023 gehad het.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Wat egter onwettig is, is om karkasse saam met liggame te veras.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
