Die Wes-Kaapse premier, Alan Winde, die provinsiale minister van polisie-oorsig en gemeenskapsveiligheid, Anroux Marais, en JP Smith, die Kaapse burgemeesterskomiteelid vir veiligheid en sekuriteit, het op ‘n onlangse inligtingsessie op 10\u2009April die opdaterings, hersienings en suksesse van die provinsiale veiligheidsplan vir die afgelope jaar gedeel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Een besprekingspunt was die suksesse van die wetstoepassingsbevorderings- plan (LEAP) \u2013 ‘n gesamentlike inisiatief tussen die provinsiale regering en die Stad Kaapstad \u2013 wat in verskeie gebiede\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

in die Wes-Kaap, waaronder die Drakenstein-munisipaliteit (DM), ontplooi word.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Volgens Smith is ongeveer 400\u2009000 mense sedert LEAP se ontstaan \u200b\u200bin 2020 in hegtenis geneem en 739 onwettige vuurwapens uit die strate verwyder.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tans is LEAP-beamptes in ses gebiede binne die Stad Kaapstad ontplooi, insluitend Delft, Khayelitsha, Phillipi-Oos, Nyanga, Mitchells Plain en Gugulethu.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Die beamptes word van 1\u2009Julie in die DM ontplooi. ‘n Reaksie-eenheid word ook ontplooi in gebiede waar LEAP-beamptes nie bedrywig is nie.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Volgens Eda Barnard, die DM se direkteur van openbare veiligheid, finansier die Wes-Kaapse regering die LEAP-program en is die departement van polisi\u00ebring en openbare veiligheid die verantwoordelike departement. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Die Drakenstein-munisipaliteit het in vorige jare aan die LEAP-program deelgeneem. Tans het ons geen LEAP-beamptes nie, maar ons sal weer van 1\u2009Julie 2025 af deelneem wanneer ons finansiering daarvoor ontvang. Ons sal dan 20 beamptes aanstel wat patrolliewerk oor die hele Drakenstein- munisipale gebied sal doen,” s\u00ea Barnard.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Die LEAP-beamptes het voorheen 20 mense in hegtenis geneem \u2013 onder meer vir dwelm- en drankgebruik en oproerige gedrag in die openbaar, brandstgting op Paarlberg, die besit van gesteelde eiendom, en die inhegtenisneming van verdagtes.
