Die Drakenstein-munisipaliteit (DM) was weer in ‘n stryd met die informele handelaars in Lady Grey-straat betrokke nadat ‘n optrede die afgelope Maandag (24\u2009Maart) uitgevoer is om alle informele handelaars in di\u00e9 straat te verwyder en na die taxistaanplek in die Bergrivier-boulevard te verskuif.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dit sluit handelaars met \u00e9n sonder geldige permitte in.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dit is nie die eerste keer dat die munisipaliteit en die Paarlse informele handelaars koppe stamp nie. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dit is ‘n historiese stryd wat reeds sedert minstens 2008 die kop uitgesteek het toe die handelaars ook gevra is om hul stalletjies te verskuif.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Verskeie gebiede is vir hierdie verskuiwing geoormerk, waaronder Patriotplein op die hoek van Nuwe- en Derksenstraat en meer onlangs die taxistaanplek in Bergrivier-boulevard.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Die jongste verskuiwing is ‘n poging om die sakekern se beeld, wat tans as onveilig en onhigi\u00ebnies beskou word, te herstel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tydens die afgelope Maandag se optrede, wat die sperdatum vir die verskuiwing was, het ‘n swaar teenwoordigheid van die polisie en munisipale wetstoepassers die handelaars en toeskouers onder beheer gebring. Die aantal beamptes het vrae laat ontstaan \u200b\u200boor hul beskikbaarheid op ‘n gewone dag wanneer die publiek op hulle staatmaak om misdaad te bekamp.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Immigrasiebeamptes van die departement van binnlandse sake in die Paarl was ook deel van die optrede en was sedert ongeveer 06:00 reeds in die sakekern teenwoordig.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Die informele handelaars het omstreeks 10:30 in Lady Grey-straat begin betoog, waarna wetstoepassers naby Shoprite ‘n groenteverkoper se stalletjie afgebreek en die reeds wankelrige verhouding tussen die handelaars en die munisipaliteit verder versuur het.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Volgens verskeie wettige informele handelaars met wie die Paarl Post gesels het, is Lady Grey-straat al vir etlike dekades die platform vir hul ondernemings en is dit onredelik om te verwag dat hulle na ander staanplekke, waar te min infrastruktuur is, moet skuif.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hulle voer aan ‘n gebrek aan behoorlike infrastruktuur, byvoorbeeld openbare toilette asook geboude strukture waaronder hul stalletjies opgerig kan word, is een van die redes dat hulle die munisipaliteit se uitsetting verwerp.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nog ‘n rede, voer hulle aan, is die vrees dat hulle as gevolg hiervan minder wins sal maak. Die informele handelaars s\u00ea ook dit is onregverdig om almal oor dieselfde kam te skeer deur aan te voer dat alle handelaars moet skuif weens die paar wat nie die wet nakom nie.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In ‘n persverklaring oor die informele handelaars s\u00ea die munisipaliteit hy beoog om Lady Grey-straat asook Hoof- en Kerkstraat in Wellington binnekort “skoon te maak” om ‘n beter “koper- en padgebruikerservaring te verseker”.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Volgens Seraj Johaar, die DM se direkteur van korporatiewe en beplanningsdienste, het die DM Dinsdag 25 Maart weer met informele handelaars wat permitte besit, vergader en hulle die opsie aangebied om na ‘n ander geskikte handelsgebied van hul keuse in Paarl te skuif, insluitend die taxistaanplek in Bergriver-boulevard, in Breda Straat, Waterkantstraat of Patriotplein. “Die wetlike handelaars het ingestem om van hierdie opsie gebruik te maak, en die DM sal hierdie handelaars met permitte vir die gebied van hul keuse voorsien,” s\u00ea Johaar. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Vanaf 31 Maart sal geen permitte vir handel in Lady Grey-straat uitgereik word nie, en altesaam 15 permitte sal uitgereik word vir handelaars om op een van die bogenoemde persele sake te doen.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Baie van die handelaars wat tans by die taxistaanplek in Bergriver-boulevard handel dryf, is tevrede met die nuwe fasiliteite, dienste sowel as die sake-aktiwiteite by hierdie persele,” het Johaar ges\u00ea.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Die DM het reeds skadunette, vullisdromme en ‘n stortbak aangebring en daar is permanente spoeltoilette. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Ons is vasbeslote om orde in Paarl se sentrale sakedistrik te herstel en die veiligheid van gemeenskapslede wat gereeld die winkels, inrigtings en ander fasiliteite in Lady Grey-straat besoek, te verseker. Ons fokus tans op die Lady Grey-straat-gebied wat ons eers wil afhandel, waarna Hoofstraat en Kerkstraat in Wellington sal volg.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Volgens Johaar is spesifieke tydlyne vir hierdie operasie nog nie bepaal nie. Hy s\u00ea wel dat die DM ‘n nasionale regeringsubsidie ontvang vir die beplanning van die toekomstige opgradering en ontwikkeling van die Paarlse sakekern vir die volgende boekjaar.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
